Position Overview
The Japan-Korea Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing tax compliance, governance, and risk management across operations in Japan and South Korea. Taking full responsibility for tax management in South Korea while coordinating closely with local Japanese business units, this role ensures seamless implementation of regional tax execution standards, leads transfer pricing responses, and drives cross-departmental alignment between global headquarters and local entities.
Key Responsibilities

Tax Policy Interpretation & Monitoring: Interpret and track evolving tax regulations in Japan and South Korea, translating them into standardized, actionable internal guidelines for local business units.

Daily Tax Advisory: Provide professional daily tax consultation across local operations, addressing operational and cross-border tax inquiries.

Tax Incentives Management: Guide the evaluation, application, and post-approval compliance management for tax incentives in Japan and South Korea to ensure optimal, lawful tax benefits.

Audit & Authority Defense: Assist in responding to tax authority inquiries, inspections, and formal tax audits; review submitted materials and support the development of official response strategies.

Internal Governance & Risk Reviews: Conduct regular internal tax risk reviews, identify compliance gaps, lead tax health checks for 9 domestic Japanese entities, propose corrective measures, and track implementation.

Process Visualization & Internal Controls: Visualize tax filing processes (corporate tax, consumption tax, and withholding tax) to strengthen internal controls across regional operations.

Transfer Pricing Oversight: Analyze gaps between group transfer pricing policies and actual local transactions in Japan; collaborate with external tax accountants to fulfill documentation obligations and verify pricing appropriateness.

Regional Entity Coordination: Take comprehensive responsibility for Korean entities—covering daily compliance, policy tracking, and project coordination—while driving cross-departmental alignment between global headquarters and local business units.
Candidate Qualifications
Required:

Experience: 6–8 years of professional tax experience, with strong exposure to tax compliance, corporate tax governance, and transfer pricing.

Language Skills: Fluent in spoken and written English.

Technical Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of tax compliance, risk management, and transfer pricing documentation within multinational operations.

Key Competencies: Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional project management skills; ability to collaborate effectively with global headquarters, local business units, and external advisors.
Preferred (Nice to Have):

Proficiency in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese is highly advantageous for regional coordination.
